The chamber along with the CFA & Pseka hosted a farewell reception for Ambassador Andreas C. Kakouris, Ambassador to Washington of the Republic of Cyprus at the Pancyprian Community Center. Ambassador Kakouris made a moving speech and reminisced from the time he was the Cyprus Consul to New York in the 1980‘s. He stated that he has made many friends that he will never forget and asked the crowd to continue the fight for Cyprus.
The Cyprus-U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the Cyprus Federation of America hosted “Phlamoudhi: From the Bronze Age to the Digital Era.” A fascinating account of life in a small village on the north coast of Cyprus, as photographed, and experienced in 1972 by photographer and author Ian J. Cohn. It is a story of the friendship that developed between Mr. Cohn and the villagers, now displaced. Mr. Savvas Georgiou, a former resident of the village flew from London to make introductory comments and to put into context what these photographs mean to his family and community. A reception and book signing fol-lowed the presentation. The book, The Faces of Phlamoudhi, is also available online at www.FacesofPhlamoudhi.com.
